Water shapes our landscapes, our communities, and our daily lives — and each of us plays a role in protecting this essential resource. In this presentation, Chanda Cooper will share how the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) monitors and safeguards water quality statewide, and how partnerships with local stakeholders are advancing watershed protection and restoration. Attendees will also learn how to explore watershed data through the South Carolina Watershed Atlas and discover practical ways to help steward our local waterways.

About the Speaker

Chanda Cooper joined SCDES in 2024 as the Watersheds, Nonpoint Source, and Adopt‑a‑Stream Section Manager, following thirteen years as the Conservation Education Analyst for the Richland County Conservation Division. She holds a BS in Biology with a minor in Marine Science and a master’s degree in Earth and Environmental Resources Management, both from the University of South Carolina.

Chanda has served on the boards and leadership teams of the Environmental Education Association of South Carolina, Southeastern Environmental Education Alliance, South Carolina Project Learning Tree, South Carolina Forage and Grazing Lands Coalition, South Carolina Envirothon, and the Midlands Local Food Collaborative. She lives, works, and plays on her family’s farm in Kershaw County.
